Field Maple

One of our two native maples, this was once a staple of coppice woodland and as the name suggests is often found in hedge rows and field margins.

Field Maple charcoal is fairly dense, but will tend to be fissured along the grain. This gives it a burning habit of intense heat in an open grill, but pop a lid on and reduce airflow and it will respond quickly to moderate its ferocity.
