Surely one our most recognisable trees, however, with the noteworthy exception of it’s seeds strung on shoe laces for their annual pugilistic outing, the timber has found few uses.

Unpromising as the timber might seem, we thought we would give horse chestnut an opportunity to shine as the carbon donor for our latest very limited batch of single species charcoal. And shine it did! It’s made lovely, light, gleaming coals with a very delicate smoky flavour.

Perfect for a hot and quick grill the bag bulges with this voluminous charcoal so there is no need to be mean with the size of your coal bed.
