A tenacious little tree, as happy as a pioneer species spreading across scrub land as it is growing up through the canopy of established woodlands. You’ll find it scattered through every woodland, but large stands tend to be on acidic green sand soils. Most of our woodland is heavy clay, so we don’t have this particularly regularly, but a great charcoal when it comes our way.
Its growing habit of very similar winter and summer growth leads to this being a particularly shiny, un-fissured coal. It’s burning rate is steady because of this, so very user friendly. The flavour has a mineral note, lending itself to grass fed meat, grill a butterflied leg of lamb with this and you’ll be sure to make friends.
